7 Hottest Technology Trends of 2015 to Impact Career Opportunities

Posted by Saurabh Tyagi — Jan 13, 2015

We reside in an era of technology wherein reforms are embraced with open arms. From telegrams to smart phones, we have definitely come a long way. New innovations in science and technology are witnessed with every passing year and 2015 is going to be no different.

Trends in technology are constantly evolving and 2015 will bring in some novelties, which could easily impact the global job market in terms of employment opportunities. Experts from IEEE, MIT, and Gartner have predicted that the following trends are very hot for the next financial year:

“Smart” working

Smart watches, wearable health devices will persuade employers to participate in group health programs. Smart glasses will come with customised apps like repair guides, training videos, video conferencing, etc. HR Software Company Kronos and The Workforce Institute conducted a survey and found that 73% employees acquiesced that this advent would be helpful at work.

Intelligent apps for private devices

It is predicted that our already smart devices will become smarter with intelligent apps in 2015. They will become more private and secure due to fingerprint sensors (Nok Nok is currently employing this technology). According to Gartner, the apps will become self-protecting and self-aware; hence, if a hacker tries to break into an app, the others will know it and protect themselves from undue damage.

Devop-ing

The latest in terminology, Devops refers to a blend of “development” and “operations”. Normally an IT department would come up with a new app and launch it only when it’s perfect. However, recently, keeping pace with digital advancements, IIT departments are vying to become more like Facebook. They want to analyse the reactions of users to new features on their live networks, and process the assimilated data. This will enable them to make changes rapidly. For this ideology to succeed, IT companies need to purchase a lot of technology and stay organised so that they do not crash things.

Mobile Identities

Similar to Microsoft’s “Home of the future”, which came into existence in 1994, this is a concept launched by Satya Nadella. Through mobile identities, your identity will live in a cloud and travel from one device to another, from one network to another. Such “context aware” applications are being worked upon by Microsoft. They will not only keep a track of your whereabouts, but help collaborate with your colleagues as well.  The information is gathered through hundreds of tiny sensors, which track your every single move.

Smart Machines

According to IEEE, “A smart object takes advantage of mobile devices’ and sensors’ ability to observe and monitor their environments, increasing the coordination between things in the real world and their counterparts on the web”. Very rightly put, 2015 will witness a surge of intelligence in machinery and their applications. The apps will learn to get synched with your lifestyle and show data that you need to access whenever you want to access it.

Cloud Computing

A blessing in disguise for budding entrepreneurs and new startup’s, cloud computing is a hot trend that has come to stay. Renting software and hardware from someone else, hosted somewhere else, and paying for only the data that is being used is what entails this concept. According to IDC, the cloud market is growing by 22% every year, which is about 6 times faster than the entire IT industry. In 2014, companies spent $56.6 billion on the cloud, a number which is expected to reach $127 billion by 2018.

Fabric data centres

These centres help in the integration of IT elements such as storage, monolithic servers, and networks. This in turn will enable service-driven RTI along with fast component substitution while optimising workloads. Gartner has predicted that this trend will progress onto fabric-based computers which will assist in the global sharing of resources as well as any-to-any virtual connectivity.

Conclusion

Most of these technologies have been designed to reshape the way organisations operate internally and connect with their consumers. They even have the capability to shift business processes. Why, Samsung has recently developed a 60 GHz Wi-Fi with a transfer rate of 575 MB per second. This is about 5.3 times faster than the previous speed of 108 MB per second. HP too has introduced a new 3-D printer which is 10 times faster than the previous models.

As we can see, technological reforms in the software industries are taking the world by storm. The above mentioned list is just a snapshot of what is to come in the near future. It is by no means, complete. It is one thing to talk about how great your phone is or how fast your tab can operate and something altogether different when it comes to implementing these ideas. It is no walk in the park.

Software and IT engineers toil day and night to bring these reforms to your doorstep. As such, working in one such company is not a bad idea. IT boom is taking place in different parts of the world, especially in US, China, and Europe. India too is not far behind with software companies launching their products from Mumbai and Bangalore.

Reforms in technology upgrade and enhance career opportunities by creating “jobs” in the market. Working in this field is considered quite lucrative with engineers looking for a job in any of the leading software companies. Let us hope that this trend continues to grow and surprise us with all its ammunition that it has in store.

For technology; this is just the beginning.
